Alcatel Idol 4: Flawless Affordable Phone
Thinking about a nice gift! why not a new affordable phone?
Alcatel has released a new phone, in order to come back to the picture again when it comes to mobile market competition. The new Alcatel Idol 4 is a mid-range phone, with a lot of interesting features. If you are considering a new phone, you should definitely take a look at Alcatel Idol 4. Here we provide a quick review to help you know what you need to know about that phone.
Price
The biggest surprise you’ll notice when you buy Idol 4 is that is comes with a VR headset in the box. So, the price of the phone ($300) includes the headset as well, which makes it a mid-range phone. While the phone performance is not well suited for VR, still it can be considered an added value.
Processor
Speaking of performance, the phone is powered with a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor. The processor is not the best processor you can have, but it is somehow compatible with other specs. Idol 4 comes with only 2GB of RAM which is quite a low capacity these days. But again, the processor and the RAM make a relatively good team.
Design
Alcatel Idol 4 has a decent 5.2 inch, 1080p screen. The phone comes in a metal and glass design which is definitely good for its price. For the cameras, Idol 4 has a 13MP back camera capable of 4K video recording. It also has an 8 MP front-facing camera provided with flash for decent selfies. You get the best shots in daylight. However, you can also get good results by adjusting the manual mode parameters. Moreover, the phone comes with quality, clear stereo speakers which is a thing that we should mention.
Performance
The performance of the phone is not suitable for users expecting to do a lot of processing concurrently. However, the phone performs smoothly for usual tasks and mid-level gaming. The phone is not quite ready for VR. It would provide mostly poor performance which is a disappointment for many users. The battery is also not that great. With a 2610 mAh battery, you cannot expect much. On the other hand, the phone comes with fast-charging capability which enables you to charge 60% in 30 minutes. That surely helps.
To sum up, Alcatel Idol 4 is definitely a competitor among mid-range phones. It has a very good screen, a decent camera and stereo speakers. Surely it is a great value for price. However, there is nothing really special about performance and it is not fully ready for VR. The battery is another drawback although fast charging help.
